When you are a victim of a car accident, you are suddenly in a whole new world:  insurance companies, claim numbers, and a whole lot of words you never heard before.

It's like waking up in a foreign land without a translator.  The insurance companies know that.  They know that you don't know the rules and you don't know what's fair.  And some of the insurance companies will take advantage of you.

Getting the best settlement possible for your car accident claim requires an experienced personal injury attorney to guide you through the process.  It's important to contact an attorney as soon as possible after your accident to learn about, and protect, your rights.

Personal Injury

Doctor with Medicine PrescriptionPersonal injury is when someone is injured because of another person's intentional or negligent acts or omissions.  Personal injury claims can include car accidents, pedestrians hit by cars, bicyclists hit by cars, slip and falls and trip and falls.

Whether you are entitled to a settlement depends upon exactly what happened.  If you were in a car accident, chances are there was a police report or an insurance investigation.  You may have eye witnesses.

In other cases, the facts may need to be pieced together after the accident to preserve the evidence.  That is why it's important to contact an attorney as soon as possible after your accident to learn about, and protect, your rights.

Workers Compensation

When an employee is injured at work, he or she is entitled to certain benefits under the law.  These benefits may include payments to compensate for lost income, medical benefits, permanent disability benefits and reemployment benefits.

All Alaska employers are required to carry Workers Compensation insurance.  If an employer does not have insurance, the injured employee can file a claim for benefits against the Alaska Guaranty Fund.

Some employers will try to avoid paying benefits by refusing to fill out a Report of Injury, or refusing to forward the Report to their insurance company.   Sometimes the insurance company will controvert, or refuse to pay, benefits.

If, for any reason, the employer or the insurance company is not paying your workers compensation benefits then you should immediately contact an attorney to pursue your rights.

xray Slip and Falls/Trip and Falls

Injuries from falls can be serious and permanent.  They are no laughing matter.

Fall injuries typically include shattered knees and serious shoulder injuries, other broken bones and traumatic brain injuries.   Surgeries and treatment are expensive.  The injuries are disabling.

Landowners are responsible for injuries occurring on their land under many circumstances.  Falls occurring on accumulations of snow and ice or falls caused by incorrectly built or maintained stairways are typical but there are many kinds of dangerous conditions that can result in injuries.

So if you were injured as the result of slip and fall or trip and fall, you should immediately contact an attorney to pursue your rights.
